Malachite derives it's name from the Greek "molochites lithos," which means "mallow-green stone." This was due to the fact that the gemstone formation resembled the leaves of the mallow plant. The most vivid of all green stones, Malachite has been used for healing for centuries. It is a protection stone used to balance the energies of the heart as well as to guard against negative energies and pollutants. This particular piece is shaped like a medium teardrop, and mounted on to an unornamented silver backing.
