"The Buddha Bhaishajyaguru, Lord of Lapis Lazuli Light, embodies the manifold dimensions of healing conveyed through the power of enlightenment. Represented as blue or as golden in color, Bhaishajyaguru holds in his left hand an iron alms bowl containing the herb myrobalan.

With his right hand extended in the barada mudra, he offers its healing benefits to ease the sufferings of body and mind. Arrayed around Bhaishajyaguru are Buddhas associated with specific aspects of healing.

Together, they form the traidtional grouping known as the Medicine Buddhas. Below is the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara, embodiment of the active power of the Buddha's compassion, and the Great Guru Padmasambhava."
