Siddartha Guatama attained ultimate realization beneath the Bodhi tree in Saranath, India. From that point on, he became known as Shakyamuni Buddha. Here, he is sitting in meditation for all beings. His right hand is in the earth-touching mudra, and his left hand is holding an alms bowl.
The historical Shakyamuni Buddha of the Shakya clan is known by various names: the Gautama Buddha, Omniscient One, Thus Gone One, and the Lion of the Shakyas, among others. Through his own example and experiences, Shakyamuni Buddha demonstrated the path of awakening, and ultimate liberation from samsara. His teachings are a continuous reminder of the Buddha within us.
His mantra is: Oṃ Mune Mune Mahāmunaye Svāhā.
These Statues have been gilded through a process of electric gold plating, which deposits a thin layer of gold upon the exterior with an electro-chemical process. The end result is absolutely stunning.
